Pathology Services

Specimen Collection
All patients are welcome at our collection facilities, which are open to the community.  MHSPS also provides collection services to the inpatients and outpatients of The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Sunshine Hospital, Western Hospital, Williamstown Hospital, and Melbourne Private Hospital. 

Analytical Laboratories
Our laboratories operate at The Royal Melbourne Hospital, Western Hospital and Sunshine Hospital campuses.  All labs offer 24 hour service 7 days a week. Analytical disciplines include: 

• Anatomical Pathology
• Chemical Pathology
• Haematology/Transfusion Medicine
• Microbiology
• Molecular Pathology

Clinical Trials 
The Clinical Trials division of MHSPS has proven itself as a reliable and efficient provider of central laboratory services for major national and international trials, as highlighted by our pivotal coordinating role in several successful, major multi-site clinical trials. 

Data Services
Applications for pathology data retrieval services attract a minimumn admistrative fee of $155. This may vary depending on the complexity of the data requested.

Data Services - clinical, educational, operational
MHSPS provides pathology data retrieval services to authorised individuals for group follow up, education, clinical review and audit purposes. Requests can be directed to James Burns, Business Development and Customer Services.

Data Services - research
Data can be requested as part of a research or QA project.  For research/QA projects, permission to access data is subject to approval by both the MH Ethics Committee and MHSPS Clinical Trials department.  Applications can be made via the clinical trials page.
