 New Anti Mitochondrial Antibody Method

Effective from 28th September 2009, the methodology of Anti Mitochondrial Antibody measurement will be changed to immunoassay.

The method for confirmation of mitochondrial antibodies has been changed from in-house immunoblot for antibodies to a commercial line immunoassay that detects antibodies to a purified mitochondrial antigen (AMA-M2) and a recombinant fusion protein (M2-3E).

This assay demonstrates improved sensitivity compared to the previous method and either AMA-M2 or M2-3E has demonstrated 97% specificity for diagnosis of Primary Biliary cirrhosis on a large serum bank performed retrospectively.

If you have any questions, please contact the immunology laboratory on 93428000 or Dr Gary Unglick Gary.Unglick@mh.org.au.
