Changes to BCR ABL Testing Scedule

As of January 2009, Pathology will be processing samples for bcr abl QPCR in patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia once every 12 weeks.

As of January 2009, Melbourne Health Pathology will only process samples for bcr abl QPCR in patients with Chronic Myeloid Leukaemia once every 12 weeks, as per the CMBS guidelines unless a specific request is made directly to the laboratory. We will store the sample if specifically requested. We have been receiving multiple samples for bcr abl testing sometimes days apart and up to 10 times per year.  Often this arises as a duplicate of an original request slip is used at the time of collection.
