Melbourne Health welcomes Comprehensive Cancer Centre announcement

12 September 2007

The Chair of Melbourne Health, Mr Robert Doyle, today welcomed the announcement by the Premier of Victoria of  $5 million commitment to detailed planning for the development of a Comprehensive Cancer Centre within the Parkville Precinct.

“The Premier’s announcement heralds the development of a blueprint for a future world class cancer centre that will improve health outcomes by building on the existing clinical and research strengths of the Parkville Precinct,” said Mr Doyle.

“It is the continuation of earlier work by the Premier in his previous role as Minister for Innovation and the previous Health Minister, the Hon Bronwyn Pike and I commend both the Premier and the current Health Minister for their ongoing support of this important initiative.

Mr Doyle said the Executive team at Melbourne Health was looking forward to working closely with the organisations that will make up the Comprehensive Cancer Centre, including the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre, and with the Departments of Innovation and Health to achieve the best possible outcomes for all Victorians.
