Rasheda Ali supports RMH neurosciences

Rasheda Ali, daughter of boxing great Muhammad Ali, visited the Royal Melbourne Hospital to help raise awareness of neurological disorders and was guest of honour at the RMH Neuroscience Foundation Ball.

Ms Ali, whose father has the neurological disorder Parkinson’s Disease, spent four days in Melbourne to raise awareness and funds for brain injury and illness.

The annual ball raises awareness of neurological diseases and funding for researchers based at RMH and The University of Melbourne.

Ms Ali said, “The RMH Neuroscience department has such a reputation that doctors from other hospitals choose to go there for treatment,” recalling her meeting a doctor who was a patient during a tour of the ward.

Earlier, she also met with staff and researchers in the RMH Department of Neurosurgery to learn about how the research has benefited patient treatments. Prof Andrew Kaye, Director of Neurosurgery spoke with Ms Ali about…

She toured the 62-bed Neuroscience Inpatient Unit and met with patients who had brain injuries as a result of strokes, brain tumours, epilepsy and multiple sclerosis (MS).

This year, the RMH Neuroscience Foundation Ball raised over $300,000.
