New Melbourne Health Board chairman appointed

21 June 2007

Health Minister Bronwyn Pike has announced the appointment of former Opposition Leader and Shadow Minister for Health Robert Doyle as the new Chairman of Melbourne Health.

Ms Pike also announced three new Board members – Bill Mountford, Penelope Hutchinson and Professor David Hayward – who all bring a wide range of skills and experience to Melbourne Health.

Mr Doyle's parliamentary experience includes serving as Parliamentary Secretary for Health to Minister Rob Knowles in the last Liberal Government.

Ms Pike said Mr Doyle’s skills included corporate management in his current role as a consultant with a management consultancy firm and a Council Member, Policy and Economics Council, for the Gerson Lehrman Group.

Mr Mountford is a former CEO of the Victorian Workcover Authority and brings corporate management and human resources skills to the board.

Ms Hutchinson is the current Director of Arts Victoria and has corporate management and community representation experience.

Professor David Hayward is the Dean, Faculty of Business and Enterprise, Swinburne University of Technology, and has expertise in corporate management.

Prof Karpin, Melbourne Health’s inaugural chairman, has stepped down after seven years at the helm. Two other members of the Board, Bill Deveney and Greg Johnson, will complete their terms on 30 June 2007. Mr Deveney is a founding Board member, and Mr Johnson has served on the Board for five years. Both have chosen not to seek reappointment.

Ms Helen Kurincic, a board member for five years, resigned in early June as a result of her appointment to a senior position with a private sector health organisation.
