RMH Home Lottery raises $1.4 million
8 December 2005
The inaugural Royal Melbourne Hospital Home Lottery has been a great success, raising more than $1.4 million to support healthcare facilities, equipment, research and education provided at the hospital.
The RMH Foundation conducted the lottery on behalf of the hospital, and RMH Foundation Chairman Iain Mason recently handed over a cheque for the proceeds to Chief Executive Officer Dr Peter Brennan.
'The result is outstanding. It is one for the record books, and the RMH Foundation is delighted to provide these funds to Melbourne Health,' Mr Mason said.
Mr Brennan said that the funds were very welcome and would be directed to high priority projects. He acknowledged the support of the RMH Foundation and the excellent effort that produced such a successful result.
RMH Foundation Executive Director David Jones said the RMH Home Lottery was one of the most successful single fundraising activities in the history of the hospital.
'We sincerely thank all who supported this project, and give our hearty congratulations to all of our winners, and to our grand prize winners in particular,' he said.
The major winners were:
- Mr Peter Jurczyluk, of Sunbury, who received a $1.7 million furnished home designed and constructed by Englehart Homes in Hawthorn East.
- Ms Margaret Walker, of North Dandenong, won a furnished apartment in New Quay, Docklands, a Smart Car and Telstra Dome Medallion Club membership, valued at more than $600,000.
- Ms Chanel Costa-Bira, of Taylors Lakes, won the lottery's 'early bird' prize, taking home a Porsche 911 Carrera valued at more than $217,000, just days after completing her VCE exams.
More than 4000 people picked up prizes ranging from other luxury cars and holiday packages to a Harley-Davidson motorcycle and home entertainment systems.
Many staff were among the prizewinners - including head of Medical Illustration, photographer Arthur Wigley, who won a digital camera!
The lottery and prize draw were supervised by Deloitte and the RMH Foundation was commended by the Victorian Commission for Gambling Regulation for the attention to detail in the project.
