WINNER:
Triple M Plan: The right model of Staffing, the right model of Care – Surgical Peas in a Pod – and the right model of Education 3 South in collaboration with the 3 South Education team, Surgery and Perioperative Services.
Members of the 3 South Triple M Plan team (centre) with Melbourne Health Chairman Mr Robert Doyle and Chief Executive Ms Linda Sorrell.
The Project
Triple M developed out a need to create the right model of staffing, education and model of care within the fast pace of a busy surgical ward with high patient turnover and high stress levels on staff.
The goals of the Triple M plan are to deliver safe patient care, support a junior workforce, facilitate ward organisation, streamline education and retain a new nursing team into the future . . . and all within a multidisciplinary staff orientated and engaged environment.
Success has been evident with a 10 per cent decrease in sick leave in the last two years, a 50 per cent reduction in patient complaints and improved access for patients.
