 Research Directorate

The Melbourne Health Research Directorate provides a focal point for research both within The Royal Melbourne Hospital and the associated research institutes forming the famous Parkville Precinct - The Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research, The Ludwig Institute for Cancer Research and The University of Melbourne.

The strong ties, both formal and informal, between the hospital and these world-class research and academic institutions, are testament to the hospital's long-standing commitment to excellence in health care, teaching and research.

Aims

The aims of the Research Directorate are to:

  • provide leadership within Melbourne Health for the conduct of medical research which can be marketed externally to secure greater levels of funding for research;
  • coordinate the administration of research activities, in particular research and ethics committees and research funds;
  • provide advocacy advice, assistance and encouragement to all staff wishing to pursue clinical research activities; and
  • coordinate employment of staff whose salaries are funded by research grants.

The Research Directorate strengthens Melbourne Health’s commitment to research excellence for the best of health for all Victorians and the wider community beyond.
