The Victorian Infectious Diseases Service (VIDS) is a statewide service, providing a full range of inpatient and outpatient infectious diseases services, with a special focus on the following areas:

  • travel medicine
  • tropical infections
  • HIV/AIDS
  • hepatitis
  • tuberculosis
  • hospital-acquired infections

VIDS Clinics

 Making an outpatient appointment

  • Contact the VIDS Secretary on 03 9342 7212, or fax on 03 9342 7277
  • Please indicate if an interpreter is required
  • A written referral is necessary and results of any recent blood tests would be appreciated
  • If you wish to discuss the patient with a doctor, please page the on-call ID registrar via switchboard on 03 9342 7000
  • Outpatient Clinics are: Hepatitis, HIV, General ID, Travel, Leprosy, Tuberculosis and Ward Follow-Up
  • While each outpatient clinic has a separate focus, GPs can refer patients with other conditions which need to be seen promptly
  • A clinic for pre-travel advice is not available at the public hospital. However, patients may be referred to a private specialist clinic, Fairfield Travel Health, which is staffed by consultants from VIDS. Contact 03 9342 7390

Research

VIDS is actively involved in clinical research that provides access to the latest therapies in HIV, hepatitis, etc. The service values the relationship with General Practitioners and encourage shared care where it is appropriate. VIDS is happy to collaborate with GPs in community-based trials.
