Medical Billing Service is a Commonwealth Government-approved medical billing agency, registered as such by the Private Health Insurance Administration Council (it's PHIAC registration number is 3530170X). This registration is a legal requirement to permit the operation of a simplified medical billing program. 
 
Medical Billing Service is a non-profit, doctor-owned service and runs under rules agreed among the participants. It operates confidentially, its accounts by law are subject to trust deed regulations, its books are independently audited, and a copy of the audit is required to be submitted annually to the Commonwealth Department of Health.

Medical Billing Service conducted within Melbourne Private Hospital the largest and best known of the Commonwealth Government's inaugural simplified medical billing trials during 1998 and 1999. (Read the media release by HIC)
