Welcome to the Department of Urology at Royal Melbourne Hospital, one of Australia’s leading Urology Centres. We provide a comprehensive urological service from the City Campus of Royal Melbourne Hospital on Grattan Street, and also provide urological expertise to the neighbouring Royal Women’s Hospital [link] and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre [link].
Our team includes ten Consultant Urologists, three Fellows, one Registrar, two residents and a specialist urology nursing team [link]. Our research staff includes three clinical trial nurses, one research fellow and a laboratory team working between the University of Melbourne [link] and the Australian Prostate Cancer Research Centre @ Epworth; which is allied with an established sister organisation based in Queensland [link].
We provide specialised clinical services for all adult urological conditions including:
- Urological cancers
- Stone disease
- Continence problems
We have general urology out-patient clinics at Royal Melbourne Hospital and also provide the following specialist multidisciplinary clinics and out-patient diagnostic services:
- Uro-oncology
- Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms’
- Haematuria (blood in the urine)
- Flexible cystoscopy
- Urodynamics
- Prostate Biopsy
The Department is actively involved with both clinical and basic scientific research [link]. It provides excellent training opportunities for urologists and specialist nurses and has a world-renowned Fellowship Program [link] for advanced trainees under the Directorship of Professor Anthony J Costello and Mr Declan G Murphy.
