John Grice

President Committee of Management 1905-1918

Born in 1850, Grice was educated at the University of Melbourne, graduating Bachelor of Laws in 1871 and Bachelor of Arts in 1872. He was prominent in business and civic affairs in Melbourne. His many offices included membership of the Boards of Melbourne Trustees and Executors, Metropolitan Gas Company, Dunlop Rubber Company of Australasia and the National Bank of Australasia from 1887 until his death in 1935, as well as several pastoral and insurance companies.

He was a member of the University of Melbourne Council in 1888 and its Vice Chancellor in 1918. In addition, he was the first Treasurer of the Victorian Red Cross.

Grice was a member of the Committee of Management of the Melbourne Hospital from 1886-1918, including its President from 1905-1918. He was knighted in 1917 and died in 1935.
