The Mental Health Training and Development Unit (MHTDU) is committed to professional development and training for clinicians of all disciplines in mental health/psychiatric programs.
The MHTDU is a unit of NorthWestern Mental Health and its primary role is to assist in the workforce development needs of clinical staff. It offers a variety of workshops and programs designed for mental health practitioners of all disciplines.

UPDATE: the following workshops are Fully Booked, no further applications will be registered: - 'Understanding and treating people with a diagnosis of borderline personality disorder' 14th May - 'Working with the complex client with a forensic history and a mental illness' 28th May - 'ASIST' 5th & 6th June - 'Mental state assessment, interviewing and documentation' 26th & 27th August
The main workshop venue is located at: The Royal Melbourne Hospital Function and Convention Centre Main Block, Ground Floor Entrance from Grattan St Parkville Vic 3050 (check confirmation letter as workshops occasionally held at alternative venues)
Confirmation of registration: The MHTDU processes the registration details and provides a confirmation letter via email or fax to the participant within 1-3 days. The confirmation letter provides details regarding workshop Start/Finish Times, Catering and Parking Information.
If the workshop is already fully booked, the MHTDU will notify the applicant and will be placed on the waiting list. The applicant will be contacted if a position becomes available.
Participants are encouraged to arrive early if driving, as parking at The Royal Melbourne Hospital - Wilson Car Park is extremely limited and there is no other all-day parking near the hospital. Public transport is highly recommended, with a variety of trams servicing the area. Please plan your trip thoroughly to ensure you arrive on time.
The MHTDU has a strict policy with regard to changes or cancellations to registrations. An administration fee of up to 50% of the course fee will apply to all cancellations made within 7 days prior to the workshop day. Name changes to the registration can be made up until the day prior to the workshop.
Enquiries and requests: The MHTDU welcomes enquiries and requests for assistance. Our training consultants can assist in the identification of organisational training needs and the development of training processes. On-site, team-based and discipline specific training can be tailored to the individual requirements of organisations across Australia.
