North West Dialysis Service (NWDS) in Victoria provides care to approximately 6 per cent of the Australian Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) population, making it one of the largest national providers of renal replacement therapies.
NWDS operates as a hub and spoke model, offers an integrated CKD service and provides care for CKD patients from the time that they are registered with the service until transplantation, relocation or end of life. The scope of services offered by NWDS is designed to support a continuum of care for people with CKD. Treatment options that are explained and discussed with people include home haemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, satellite dialysis, transplantation and supportive care. |
Consistent with a community based care philosophy and focus on quality of life, home therapies are encouraged, satellite centres are strategically placed to offer dialysis to patients close to their homes and in-centre dialysis is only provided for those that require increased medical supervision or hospital based interventions, generally for a limited time. NWDS embraces clinical excellence and innovation in the care and management of people with kidney failure and engages translational research, a quality and safety framework and consumer participation to support our primary goals. | |
