 New GAd and IA-2 antibodies method

From Monday 15th Nov 2010 the assay of GAd and IA-2 antibodies will change from the current in-house assay to the RSR ELISA assay.

All samples registered from that date will be done by the new assays.

Serum only is acceptable [lipaemic or haemolysed samples are unsuitable]. 250uL is required for one assay, 0.5mL for both assays. The samples should be separated soon after collection and aliquots stored at -20C. Forward samples frozen.

The reference interval for GAd:  negative  < 5 U/mL, positive  >= 5 U/mL.

The reference interval for IA-2: negative  < 15 U/mL, positive  >= 15 U/mL.

                 [Units are NIBSC 97/550]

Please note that there is no conversion factor that relates the former assays to the new assays.

The change relates to all routine patient samples, it will not affect current research studies provided that those studies have been previously recognised as such within Melbourne Health Shared Pathology Service.
