The Melbourne Health Board of Directors has nine members.

 

Robert Doyle - Chairman

Mr Doyle was elected Lord Mayor of Melbourne in December 2008 and is a Principal with The Nous Group, a management consultancy firm with offices in Melbourne, Sydney and Canberra.  Mr Doyle was a Member of the Victorian Parliament from 1992-2006. His political career includes serving as Leader of the Opposition and Leader of the Liberal Party, Shadow Minister for Health and Parliamentary Secretary for Health. Mr Doyle is also an Ambassador for Odyssey House and SeconBite. He is a Trustee of the Shrine of Remembrance, Chair of the Royal Melbourne Hospital Foundation and President of the Lord Mayor's Charitable Fund. He holds a Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and a Master of Letters.

Mr Doyle was appointed Melbourne Health Board Chairman in July 2007

 

 

Ms Kate Redwood

Ms Redwood has held a number of senior management positions including CEO of the Australian Physiotherapy Association, Executive Director of Australian Red Cross Victoria, and Executive Director of the Victorian Council of Social Service.  A former Councillor for the City of Melbourne, Ms Redwood has chaired a number of standing committees as well as the Yarra/Melbourne Regional Library Board, the Melbourne Disability Advisory Committee and for many years was President of the Carlton Senior Citizens Centre.

Ms Redwood was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in July 2003. She is the chair of the Community Advisory Committee, a member of the Remuneration Committee and represents Melbourne Health on the Orygen Research Foundation Board.

Professor James Angus

Professor Angus is the Dean, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences at The University of Melbourne. Previously he held the Chair of Pharmacology and was Head of Department since joining the University in 1993. Professor Angus has an extensive research record in cardiovascular and analytical pharmacology and was recently named a citation Laureate as one of the most cited researchers over the past 20 years in Australia by Thompson ISI. Professor Angus was President of the Academic Board and has served on The Council of The University and Council of The Australian Academy of Science. He currently also serves on the Boards of Centre for Eye Research Australia, Bionic Ear Institute, National Ageing Research Institute, Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research and The Victorian Institute for Forensic Medicine and Mental Health Research Institute. Professor Angus was awarded the Gottschalk Medal from the Australian Academy of Science (1984) and the Centenary Medal for services to Pharmacology and the community (2003).

Professor Angus was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in March 2004.

 

Mr Bill Mountford

Mr Mountford is Director of Inhomecarers Pty Ltd, a community aged care provider and a Director of Colin Carter and Associates, board advisors. Previously, Mr Mountford has served as CEO of the Victorian Workcover Authority, was a Partner of Arthur Anderson, Director of Australian Consulting Partners, Executive Director of Australian Manufacturing Council and a consultant for the Boston Consulting Group. He holds a Master of Philosophy in Economics, a Bachelor of Economics and has attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Mr Mountford was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in July 2007.

 

 

Ms Penelope Hutchinson 

Ms Hutchinson’s career began in chartered accountancy, in England, before she migrated to Australia in 1983. She took up the position of Director of Arts Victoria in November 2000, leaving a partnership at BDO Nelson Parkhill, where she worked from 1987.

At BDO, Ms Hutchinson led the consulting division which focused on a core client base across many portfolios in the Victorian Public Sector – including health, transport, treasury, environment and community services.  Before that, she was a senior policy officer at the Department of Management and Budget and the National Companies and Securities Commission.

From 1985 to 1993, Ms Hutchinson tutored in accounting at Ormond College, University of Melbourne and from 1980 to 1993 she also held the position of Director of Studies for Commerce.

Ms Hutchinson has served on various boards, including Medibank Private, Swanston Trams, Federal Airports Corporation, Victorian Rehabilitation Services, the Victorian Council of Social Service, the Victorian College of the Arts and Monash University.

Ms Hutchinson is currently a director of Melbourne Central City Studios.

In 2008, she was regional Chair of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Ms Hutchinsonhas a degree in German and Music from the University of London. She has a diploma of music performance in the clarinet, a Masters in Public Policy at the University of Melbourne and a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

Ms Hutchinson was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in July 2007.

 

 

Professor David Hayward 

Professor Hayward has been appointed to the position of Dean of Global Studies, Social Science and Planning at RMIT, commencing in August 2009. He was formerly the Dean, Faculty of Business and Enterprise, at Swinburne University of Technology, and the former foundation Executive Director and then Director of the Institute of Social Research at Swinburne. Professor Hayward has published widely on social economics, state government finances and housing policy. He is a member of the Australian Institute of Public Administration and the Australian Institute of Company Directors and Patron of the Victorian Epilepsy Foundation

Professor Hayward was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in July 2007.  

 

Mr Michael Gorton AM

Mr Gorton is a Partner in a Melbourne law firm, Russell Kennedy Solicitors. He has had government roles, including Chair, VEOHRC; President of the Health Services Review Council;  Chair of the Biotechnology Ethics Advisory Committee and Chair of the Infertility Treatment Authority.  He has also been a member of the Advisory Board of the Monash Institute for Medical Research; National President of Greening Australia and inaugural Co-Chair of Reconciliation Victoria Inc. Michael advises many of the Australasian medical colleges, and for his work was awarded Honorary Fellowships with Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and Australian & New Zealand College of Anaesthetists and was made a Member in the Order of Australia in 2004 for his community contribution.

Mr Gorton was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in July 2008. 

 

  Jane Bell

Mrs Jane Bell

Mrs Bell is a banking and finance lawyer with more than 20 years experience in leading law firms, financial services and corporate treasury operations gained living in Melbourne, London, Toronto, San Francisco and Brisbane. Mrs Bell currently serves as a Director of Worksafe Victoria, Deputy Chair of Westernport Water Corporation and as a Director of Prince Henry’s Institute of Medical Research. Mrs Bell holds a Bachelor of Laws, Bachelor of Economics and a Master of Laws (Lon) and is a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.

Mrs Bell was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in July 2009.

Mr Phillip Bain

Mr Bain is CEO of the Northern Division of General Practice and works with GPs in Melbourne’s northern suburbs. He is the long standing Board President of Darebin Community Health Service and is involved in numerous health sector organisations including the NEMICS (cancer services) Reference Group. He is Vice President of QICSA and a Board member of the Quality Improvement Council.

He was President of the HACSSA/HSU 5 until 2008 and is now the Management and Administrative representative on the Committee of Management of the HSU.

He is an Associate Fellow of the ACHSE, a former local Councillor and Mayor and holds a Masters in Business.

Mr Bain was appointed to the Melbourne Health Board in July 2009.
