Historical Room eastMerlyn Myer Historical Room

The Historical Room was created in 1980 with funds donated by esteemed RMH board member Dame Merlyn Myer. It was renamed the Merlyn Myer Historical Room in her honour in 2001. The room is in the style of a late 1800s drawing room, and displays paintings, artefacts and records going back more than 160 years.

The Historical Room can be found at the rear of the Function Centre on the ground floor, and is open to the public on weekdays from 9am to 5pm and at other times by special arrangement.

The RMH Heritage Advisory Committee and hospital archivist run two exhibitions a year in the Historical Room, as part of efforts to preserve and promote the history of The Royal Melbourne Hospital. The next exhibition will focus on the 150th anniversary of the University of Melbourne's Medical School and its relationship with the RMH.
