MCCC Tumour Streams

The Medical Oncology service is a component of the Melbourne Comprehensive Cancer Centre (MCCC).

The service functions within the MCCC tumour stream framework. These tumour streams provide state of the art multi-disciplinary care for patients with cancer. There is close relationship between the Medical Oncology service and those of Palliative Care and Clinical Haematology.

The MCCC tumour streams include:

  • Breast cancer
  • Neuro-Oncology
  • Colorectal cancer
  • Upper-gastrointestinal cancer
    (oesophageal, stomach, pancreas)
  • Skin (melanoma)
  • Uro-oncology
    (kidney, bladder, prostate and testis)
  • Lung cancer
  • Haematology
  • Gynae-oncology
The Medical Oncology service includes:
 
- Inpatient care
- Outpatient clinics
- Inpatient consultations
- Day centre activity
  (chemotherapy, blood transfusions etc)

Outpatient clinics are multi-disciplinary and sub-speciality based and include:      

- General Oncology
- Breast cancer
- Lung cancer
- Colorectal cancer   
- Upper gastro-intestinal cancers
- Neurological cancers
- Urological cancers 

The service has an international reputation for clinical trials ranging from early phase studies of experimental therapies to participation in multinational Phase III studies.
