"The weekly education topics are chosen with help of the interns which make all the sessions interesting and relevant" - Dr Kwan: Intern 2010

Weekly Intern & HMO Education Sessions:

Currently held during lunch-time on Wednesday's and Friday's, the Education sessions are a contemporary and relevant source of information, topics selected with the help of the Junior Medical Staff and in line with the Confederation of Postgraduate Medical Education Council's Curriculum Framework. All sessions are recorded for those that are on rural rotations and uploaded onto the Medical Education E-Learning Platform (MEL) with further resources and relevant links. The sessions cover topics within medicine, surgery, allied health and all sub-specialties whilst also providing opportunities to become involved in organisational wide initiatives.  The education sessions are protected time where contact with Junior doctors via pagers is only made if unavoidably urgent. All sessions are assessed by medical & education professionals as well as the junior medical doctors in attendance in order to maintain a high standard in delivery of medical education. Lunch is also provided at each session.

Life Support Training:

The hospital provides different levels of life support training for all staff involved in patient care. All interns will undergo resuscitation skills training during orientation. In addition to this, the training is held a further four times a year over a 3-hour block, providing staff the opportunity to maintain certification and increase confidence in critical situations. The training is run by staff that are not only experienced in health but have education and/or instructor training and experience. Other life support programs we run include: Basic Life Support for our International Medical Graduates and ALS Level 1 (1 Day) - Immediate Life Support for our specialists in training which is co-branded with the Australian Resuscitation Council and Resuscitation Council UK. Advanced Life Support training (2 Day) is currently run by the anaesthetics department
