About the Graduate Psychiatric Nurse Program 2010
Duration
56 weeks full time (80 hours/fortnight). Six weeks annual leave and one Accrued Day Off (ADO) per month. Shift, weekend and public holiday penalty payments apply.
A full 8-day orientation and study block is provided before the clinical rotations commence.
Paid study days and supernumerary time are allocated throughout the program.
Aim
NorthWestern Mental Health is able to provide you with a clinically based, theoretical and experiential learning program in a supportive environment where clinicians and educators work together to ensure that your knowledge and skills are encouraged, valued and rewarded.
The course has been developed to provide a sound clinical and theoretical education and incorporates continuous competency-based assessment to promote the best possible clinical development.
Theory Component
The theory program consists of four units of study designed specifically to meet the needs of graduates entering the mental health field.
- Models Supporting Psychiatric Care (36 hrs)
- Psychopathology and Interventions (36 hrs)
- Clinical Skills Development (36 hrs)
- Assessment, Interviewing and Counselling Skills (36 hrs)
The theory is delivered in study blocks, study days and workshops throughout the program. All while you get paid!
We encourage and support continuing education so NorthWestern Mental Health is accredited with the University of Melbourne for credit towards the Postgraduate Diploma in Nursing Practice.
Clinical Component
Three clinical rotations are provided, a minimum of one in acute adult inpatient services. NorthWestern Mental Health can provide clinical experience in residential rehabilitation, acute adult, youth and aged psychiatry settings.
