Queen's Birthday 2012 Honours to doctor and volunteer

Congratulations to Dr Harry Derham, NorthWestern Mental Health, and Mrs Barbara Haynes, Royal Melbourne volunteer, for receiving honours in The Queen's Birthday 2012 Honours List. Dr Derham, Consultant Psychiatrist, Eating Disorders Unit, NorthWestern Mental Health, was recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to psychiatry, particularly in the field of eating disorders.
Mrs Haynes, known for her philanthropic and volunteer roles within The Royal Melbourne Hospital, was recognised with a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for services to the community through her support for a range of medical research, arts and social welfare organisations.
Our sincere congratulations to Harry and Barbara for the very deserving recognition of their work in our community.

Dr Harry Alfred DERHAM
For service to psychiatry, particularly in the field of eating disorders.
Founding Director, Eating Disorders Program, The Melbourne Clinic, 1984-2003; Chairman, Research and Ethics Committee, since 1994; current Member, Medical Advisory Committee;
Foundation Psychiatrist, since 1978.
Director, Eating Disorders Program, Royal Melbourne Hospital, 1994-1998 and 2003; Chairman, Department of Psychiatry, 1983-1987; Sessional Principal Specialist Psychiatrist, since 1990; Visiting Consultant Psychiatrist, since 1977.
Clinical and Medical Surveyor, Australian Council on Healthcare Standards, since 1993. Member, Federal General Council, Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, 1998-2002; Chair, Victorian Branch, 1999-2002.
Honorary Senior Fellow, Department of Psychiatry, University of Melbourne, for 36 years.
Mrs Barbara Rosemary HAYNES
For service to the community through support for a range of medical research, arts and social welfare organisations.
Philanthropic and volunteer roles with the Royal Melbourne Hospital (RMH) include:
- Current supporter, RMH Neuroscience Foundation; through the Foundation Mrs Haynes assisted with the establishment of the Warren Haynes Fellowship which supports neurologists and neurosurgeons to undertake postgraduate research in the neurosciences.
- Supporter, Melbourne Brain Centre; Mrs Haynes contributed $100,000 to the establishment of the Centre which opened in 2011.
- Funds the postgraduate positions, RMH Research Foundation; annual commitment.
- Founder, RMH Guides; volunteer guide.
- Member, Supporters Liaison Group.
- Member, Friends of RMH.
- Member, The Friendly Foyer Committee.
- Member, Birthday Card League.
Supporter, the Children's Garden at the Royal Children's Hospital.
Other Philanthropic activities include:
- Patron and supporter, Victorian Arts Centre, since 1993; Mrs Haynes has contributed in excess of $400,000 to the Centre.
- Current Supporter, 'Peers Inspiring Peers'; not-for-profit organisation delivering the 'LifeMoves' program - a peer support rehabilitation program for people with acquired neurological conditions; Mrs Haynes attends Board Meetings whenever possible.
- Current Patron and supporter, Corpus Medicorum at The Royal Melbourne Hospital; an orchestra inspired by the Australian Doctor's Orchestra.
- Supporter, Victorian Sport and Recreation Association of Persons with an Intellectual Disability.
- Supporter, Hawthorn Community House.
- Supporter, Saturday Art program and Nova Art Group; art for adults with neurological disorders.
- Supporter, Scope (Vic) Ltd; Mrs Haynes has funded the Bridging Project since 2006.
